An update from the BID office

Project Griffin awareness
The BID Coordinator joined the Ambassadors at a Project Griffin awareness session last week. Project Griffin is a national counter terrorism awareness initiative for business and individuals produced by the National Counter Terrorism Security Office (NaCTSO) to protect our communities from the threat of terrorism. Its primary mission is to engage, encourage and enable members of the community to work in partnership with the police to deter, detect and counter terrorist activity and crime.
Devon and Cornwall Police are holding Project Griffin Awareness sessions at Westpoint Centre, Exeter on:

  • Thursday 17 August 2017, 10.30am – 12.00pm
  • Thursday 17 August 2017, 1.00pm – 2.30pm

If you would like to attend the event please email ctsa@devonandcornwall.pnn.police.uk

Christmas Lights Switch-on event
It may only be August, but this year’s Christmas Lights Switch-on event is in just 3-months’ time. Planning is well underway for the night, which promises to be just as spectacular as last year’s. Opportunities for your business to become a sponsor of the event, which last year welcomed an audience in excess of 15,000, can be found on our dedicated Christmas Lights Switch on event sponsorship webpage.
The BID is offering its independent businesses the opportunity to have a chalet-type stand at this year’s Christmas Market at a considerably reduced rate. The number of businesses who have stepped forward already has been excellent, and they reflect the diverse range of independent community. If you would like to share in this opportunity, please visit our webpage to find out more and to apply. The deadline for applications is Monday 21st August.

Dementia Friendly Awards 2017
With nominations for 2017’s Dementia Friendly Awards now open, one of last year’s winners Gina Awad explains how work continues in her local community in her blog.

Levy payers are invited to apply to take part in this year's Style in Exeter event which returns to the city centre on Saturday, 23rd September. A catwalk and seating will be built in Princesshay Square to host a day of exciting fashion shows from independent businesses, high street shops and department stores.  The event will be supported by a multichannel PR and marketing campaign. Summer of Independents - voting closes today!
The Summer of Independents competition closes at 5pm today. We have received a fantastic response with over 1,000 entries to date. There's still time to promote your business for votes! Make sure you direct your customers to our Summer of Independents webpage which contains information and an online voting form.

Please continue to spread the word about the campaign and don't forget to tag the In Exeter social channels and use our dedicated hashtag #IndieExeter so we can share your posts and tweets.

The top ten businesses to be shortlisted will be visited by our mystery shopper in the next couple of weeks. The results of the vote and our mystery shopper's reports will be assessed by our panel of judges who will decide which business should be crowned Independent Business of the Year.
